Travel pains. New visa rules for visitors to the U.S. hurt businesses that need to see overseas customers

Article Abstract:

The U.S. revision of its visa policy in order to limit terrorists entering the country is having unforeseen economic problems for companies that do business overseas. One result is that some U.S. companies have lost major contracts. A second set of U.S. regulations are to be implemented in Asia that will make it even more difficult for foreigners to enter the U.S.

The Wright Company (Bangkok, Thailand) overcame travel problems due to SARS during its executive hiring process by relying upon videoconferencing. The company has retained this procedure, as it saved the company time and money. However, as other companies begin relying upon the same technology, airlines should expect a decline in business travel.
