Tsunami: recovery funds flow in

Article Abstract:

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has acknowledged receipt of commitments from donors for $20.5 million that is meant to help fishermen and fisheries affected by the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean region. FAO has estimated the losses in the region to be around $1.3 billion. Other relief operations in Tsunami affected regions are also discussed.

Control agency to broker joint plans: International Fisheries compliance conference

At the International Fisheries Compliance Conference held in Brussels last month, it was decided that the European UnionEs new Fisheries Control Agency will set up Joint Deployment Plans (JDP) to ensure more uniform and effective inspections.
