Tung's Tiananmen headache: Hong Kong and China

Article Abstract:

A crowd estimated to be 55,000 congregated in Hong Kong's Victoria Park on Jun 4, 1997, to commemorate the 1989 Tiananmen massacre. Tung Chee-hwa may attempt to ban such demonstrations next year to please Chinese leaders and quell populist movements in Hong Kong.

Taiwan's Tiananmen

Article Abstract:

Taiwanese President Lee Teng-Hui has ordered an independent report on a 1947 incident in which soldiers of the National government massacred an uncertain number of Taiwanese. This is a controversial subject.
