Two French banks strike deal; Societe Generale buys stake in rival

Societe Generale S.A. has acquired a 3.8% stake in Credit Lyonnais S.A. in a transaction that both sides described as friendly. Societe Generale paid roughly 450 million euro to buy the stake in Credit Lyonnais from US hedge fund manager Tiger Management LLC in an off market transaction. Societe Generale said it hoped to develop partnerships with the recently privative Credit Lyonnais.
