UK: COLONIAL WAS UNREGISTERED SAY FORMER STAFF

Article Abstract:

The regulator PIA is facing legal action after being accused by former employees of insurance company Colonial Mutual Group (UK) Holdings of allegedly permitting the firm to operate unauthorised for almost ten years by backdating registration of the company, now Colonial Financial Services, from 1998 to 1989. Four other subsidiaries of Colonial operating in the UK at the time were legally registered. Both parties were aware of the oversights, as seen in letters from Andy Dennis, Colonial's former head of operations and compliance, and Peter Cooper, spokesman for the PIA. The former employees are pursuing the case through lawyers and Freedom To Care, the ethics organisation.

UK: AISA THREATENS LAWSUIT AGAINST SCOTTISH WIDDOWS

Article Abstract:

Aisa Direct, of Wiltshire, UK, has threatened to file a lawsuit against Scottish Widows, following a failed advertising project. Scottish Widows claimed that Aisa had not brought in any customers two months after advertisements by Aisa for Scottish Widdows products in the press and mail shots in October 2000. It appears that Scottish Widdows was unable to identify Aisa as the source of applications, with just a campaign number on the literature, and not Aisa's own name. According to James Pearcy-Caldwell, Aisa Direct chief executive, in previous campaigns Aisa's success rate has been 2%-3%.

UK: SLFOC AND BRITANNIC ASSURANCE IN DISPUTE

Article Abstract:

Britannic Assurance might still take Sun Life Financial of Canada (SLFoC), life insurance company, to court in the UK over alleged plagiarism relating to a competence and training document despite SLFoC's withdrawal of the document and the ending of its sales force and job cuts. According to a source within SLFoC, contract trainers warned the company not to use the training guide, which was recognisable as that of Britannic, but the warning was ignored.
