mPower (San Franciso, CA), an online financial adviser, plans to penetrate the market in Europe, including the UK. The company will operate as a virtual Internet-only adviser, with services costing from GB[pound] 20-GB[pound] 99, run by Sort (UK), a web-based independent financial adviser , now owned by mPOwer. It is Sort's intention to be the top supplier of good quality, Internet-based customised financial advice, at low prices. Services will include advice on investments, life insurance, pensions and mortgages.

UK: Tenet diversifies into general insurance

Article Abstract:

Tenet, the IFA group, and Ceta network have secured a deal whereby Tenet members can sell insurance products, such as Ceta household, ASU, commercial liability, legal, travel pet and motor insurances. Ceta has said it expects more IFAs to copy the trend to diversify their traditional ranges. Tenet has highlighted the rise in protection insurance in 2001.

UK: INSURANCE INDUSTRY WORTH 2% OF GDP

The insurance industry accounts for 2% of the UK's gross domestic product according to the Association of British Insurers. In 1998 the UK insurance market had 8% of total worldwide insurance premium income. It also employed 370,000 people and had overseas earnings of GB[pound] 7bn.
