UK car prices: a cause for concern?

Article Abstract:

There has been a debate on price differentials for cars in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe, with the UK appearing to have the most expensive cars. This is partly because of the strength of pound sterling, and because of tax differences. The UK is also outside European monetary union, and countries inside have seen a drop in price differentials. There are also competition issues that are being investigated in the UK. There appears to be a need for a policy to promote competition in the UK.
