UK investment banks are leaving the building

Article Abstract:

UK investment banks BZW, NatWest Markets and Hambros are all facing an uncertain future. BZW is to be sold through a public auction arranged by Goldman Sachs, an approach which has attracted considerable criticism in the City because it seems to expose BZW's weaknesses to potential purchasers. NatWest Markets may see Deutsche Morgan Grenfell acquire its equities business, but there is no purchaser as yet for its corporate finance unit. Considerable problems seem to be arising from the current cult of personality in investment banking.

We have the technology

Article Abstract:

Investment firms must establish a clear model for identifying early stage technology financing opportunities, and set an agenda which encourages investment for long-term benefits. BancBoston Capital has pursued a policy of investment in small, technology firms which only produce financial returns at a later stage. The strategy is risky but investment firms need to be prepared to take early stage investment risks.
