US Army mod plan revealed

Article Abstract:

The US Army, which has submitted its aviation modernization plan (mod plan) to the US Congress, has admitted that the plan will never materialize without congressional support. The mod plan, which is yet to be allocated its budget by the US Congress, calls for the development and subsequent delivery of 1,213 Comanche armed reconnaissance helicopters until around 2020. The plan also introduced the concept of creating multi- function units from both the Divisional and Corps levels.

Article Abstract:

Army pilot Capt Cynthia Wymann noted in an interview that the AH-64A Apache attack aircraft is an exciting helicopter to fly because of its excellent and powerful weapon platform. Wymann said she underwent a selection process in being assigned to fly her aircraft after completing 200 hours in flight training school. She hopes fly the Apache Longbow one day, and may yet get the chance to do so because the Army is planning to upgrade all its A-model Apaches to D-models.

Nitex breaks new ground

Article Abstract:

The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) was able to conduct one of its biggest night- flying exercises in Mar 2000, during the implementation of Exercise Nitex 2000. The military exercise, organized by the air warfare center in Scotland, was participated in by about 80 aircraft, 250 aircrew personnel and various members of the country's air assault brigade. The RAF exercises also saw the first use of Tornado helicopters with the Lynx, Puma and Chinook helicopters.
