U.S. aide offers note of caution on jet subsidies

Rob Portman has been sworn in as a trade official of the United States to kick start trade negotiations with the European Union over aircraft industry subsidies. The United States has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization concerning "unfair subsidies" to Airbus S.A.S. by European governments as Boeing Co. struggles with Airbus S.A.S. for market share.

French resistance to trade accord has cultural roots

Doha World Trade Organization talks on agricultural tariffs is trying to beat out an international agricultural trade policy. France receives $11.5 billion in European Union subsidies for its agricultural industry. It is the second largest producer of food next to the United States.
