U.S. executives traveling with Brown voice enthusiasm for Indian market

Article Abstract:

US businessmen who accompanied Commerce Sec. Ron Brown on his recent trip to India have expressed much enthusiasm for the country and its potentially vast market. In addition to its huge population, India boasts of familiarity with the English language, a long experience with stocks, a developed capital market and a high level of savings. The Indian government is undertaking an ambitious economic reform program and US firms are hoping this will lead to an improvement in the business climate.

Japan maintains slow reform pace in telecom sector

Article Abstract:

The Japanese government has made a commitment to reform the country's outdated telecommunications laws. However, many observers believe that it is not moving fast enough in to achieve this goal. They state that Japanese telecommunications reform policy can be characterized as a fragmented effort which has done little to eliminate the stranglehold a few privileged firms have over the market.
