UTI BANK - NO CAPITAL APPRECIATION

Article Abstract:

UTI Bank (UB) plans to increase its net worth by making a Rs42 crore public issue at Rs21 per share. The issue will be partly public and partly an offer for sale, where UTI plans to divest its stake. UB now has non-performing assets (NPA) of 5.63 percent with the lowest earning per share (EPS) of Rs1.44. In 1997-98, UB's total income rose by 74.61 percent to Rs316.51 crore. Its net profit was Rs16.59 crore (Rs15.22 crore in 1996-97). In 1998- 99, UB's total income is expected to increase to Rs444.35 crore and the net profit to Rs31.63 crore. (gsh) >EN

SOUTH INDIAN BANK - AVOID THE ISSUE

Article Abstract:

The South Indian Bank (SIB) of Kerala is making a Rs51.20 crore public issue at Rs32 per share to improve its capital adequacy ratio and increase its long-term resources. The issue is expected to offer an earning per share of Rs7.76, discounting its offer price by 4.12 times. In 1997-98, SIB made a net profit of Rs20.74 crore (Rs7.77 in 1996-97). Its NPA (non-performing assets) increased to 6.16 percent from 5.25 percent. In 1998-99, its projected net profit is Rs27.31 crore, the other income Rs40.64 crore and NPA 5.5 percent. (gsh)
