Asia's superheroes defy unpredictable economic terrain

Article Abstract:

Australian Computershare and New Zealand's Baycorp Holding head the list of top-performing Asian companies for investors, according to the Asian Wall Street Journal's annual survey. Companies' share prices, sales increases and cash returns had to grow at a double-digit rate for a three year period in order to be considered for the list.

Alphatec's restructuring plan hits snag with vote delay

Article Abstract:

The collapse of the financial restructuring of major chip assembler Alphatec Electronics' may ruin the financial reforms undertaken in Thailand. The company's stockholders have failed to vote on the financial recovery plan due to hopes that Alphatec will revive even without undertaking drastic change. Furthermore, its creditors have raised concerns regarding the major elements of the plan. This includes Krung Thai Bank and with American International Group which plans to invest in Alphatec. The delay is expected to dampen investors' faith in Thailand's financial market.

Uncovering Asia's gems; small, litte-known niche companies lead the list of top cash earners

Article Abstract:

Small Asian companies are returning record profits for their shareholders and are leading Asia back to profitability from the financial crisis of 1997 and 1998. They are little known companies in financial services, telecommunications, wholesale, foods, semiconductor and credit card services in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Thailand.
