UniCredito board to discuss plans for expansion

UniCredito Italiano SpA will discuss a share swap with Banco Bilbao Vizcaya SA, the purchase of Mediocredito Centrale SpA and an alliance with Banca Nazionale del Lavoro SpA. The bank is making new plans in the wake of a merger by rivals Banca Intesa SpA and Banca Commerciale Itialiana SpA.

Italy tells Mediobanca, SAI to make full bid for Fondiaria

SAI S.p.A. (Societa Assicuratrice Industriale) and Mediobanca S.p.A. will have to make a full offer to acquire Fondiaria Assicurazioni S.p.A., according to Italian regulators. SAI and Mediobanca are working together to make a bid.

Two banks in North Italy plan merger

Banca Popolare di Verona is merging its operations with Banca Popolare di Bergamo in a deal that will form the sixth-largest lender in Italy. The merger is valued at 2.6 billion euros, or possibly more.
