Unilever profit soars 26%, aided by sale of unit

Article Abstract:

Unilever United States Inc. posted a third quarter profit surge of 26 percent to 1.42 billion Euros ($1.71 billion) up from 1.13 billion Euros last year. Sales are up 4.5 percent to 10.22 billion Euros from 9.78 billion Euros, largely due to consumer spending in North America. The sale of the cleaning products fragrance division contributed markedly to the profit increase and Unilever United States Inc. plans to continue to streamline operations.

Fiat changes board, sees more troubles

Article Abstract:

Jack Welsh, the chief executive officer of General Electric Co., was appointed by Fiat SpA to be one of its four newest board members. Fiat also cautioned that the 1999 year is proving to be a very difficult year. The Italian car maker has an eleven-member board. Mr. Welsh was appointed because of his close relationship with Paolo Fresco, the chairman of Fiat. Mr. Fresco joined Fiat in the autumn of 1998.

Car division of Fiat swings to operating profit

Article Abstract:

Fiat SpA's car division has posted an operating profit for the 2000 year. The Fiat Auto unit posted 44 million euros in operating profits for the year, compared to a 121 million euros loss in 1999.
