Uusi emo Alkon tuotannolle ja viennille

Article Abstract:

The board of directors of Finland's state-owned Alko Group has accepted the plan to divide the Group, thus Alko Group will be divided in three companies and the present parent company will cease to exist. The plan will be carried out at the very beginning of 1999. The 50 employees of the parent company will transfer to Alko Kauppa Oy (retail monopoly), Altia Group Oy (alcohol production, export, import and wholesale) or Arctia-Invest Oy (financial administration). The management of the new companies has not been decided upon yet. Primalco (production) and Havistra (wholesale and distribution) will act as Altia Group subsidiaries. The above companies are an intermediate state of the change. Alkon Kauppa and the present Alko Oy will be merged in future. Arctia-Invest will be made a subsidiary of a state-owned real estate holding company to be established. Only Altia Group will be a permanent company.

Uusi sellutehdas mieluummin Latviaan kuin Saksaan

Article Abstract:

Having researched the north German wood situation the Finnish Mets liitto has come to the conclusion that Latvia will be a better place for a new pulp mill. In Germany, there would be enough raw material but receiving it to industrial usage is uncertain. Over 50% of the wood would have to be bought from private woods the owners of which are not experienced in wood trade and forestry. Moreover, high harvesting and transportation costs would increase the prices close to the Finnish level even if the pulpwood stumpage prices are lower in northern Germany than in Finland. Signing the letter of intent between Mets liitto and Swedish S dra on the Latvian cooperation project will still take months. Also Latvia's forthcoming elections will postpone the agreement as Latvia's negotiators represent the country's government.
