VA Stahl to meet Polish authorities for steel-plant investment talks

Article Abstract:

VA Stahl AG of Austria is expecting to find out by the end of 1998 if Poland's steel plant privatization plans will present a problem for the company which plans to acquire a share in them. VA Stahl's chairman, Peter Strahammer, said that company officials have been invited to discussions with Polish officials. Mr. Strahammer also said he expects to gain clarifications from the officials. VA Stahl was planning to purchase a share of Huta Katowice and Huta Sendzimira, two of the largest steel mills in Poland.

Alitalia's '07 pretax loss narrowed

Article Abstract:

Pretax losses for Italy's state-owned airline Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A., or Alitalia, narrowed for 2007 to 364 mil euro, compared with 405 mil euro for 2006. Net debt, however, increased by about 18% to 1.17 bil euro. The Italian government has put Alitalia up for sale, with Air France KLM S.A. as a potential buyer.
