VW puts brakes on a rebound

Volkswagen AG will take a major financial charge of possibly 100 million euros for the 2003 third quarter. The car maker will use the charge to cover its job downsizings in Brazil. The news ended any hope of a recovery in Volkswagen's fortunes.

DaimlerChrysler's profit slides

DaimlerChrysler AG posted higher than anticipated profits for the 2003 first quarter. The car maker posted 1.4 billion euros in quarterly profits, compared to forecasts of 1.2 billion euros.

Porsche expects low profit growth

Porsche AG is forecasting little profit growth for the fiscal year ending July 31, 2004. The car maker has been hurt by the slow sales of its 911 and Boxster models.
