Vimpelcom is hit with tax claim for $160 million

Article Abstract:

Russian authorities have ordered Vimpelcom, the country's No. 2 cellular telephone company, to pay $160 million in back-taxes, fines and interest payments. The decision, along with the government's recent auditing of oil-giant Yukos, has raised fear among foreign investors that major Russian companies may be facing the kind of scrutiny that could have negative effects on company profits.

VimpelCom-Region enters funding pact with Alfa, Telenor

VimpelCom-Region has signed deals with Alfa Group and Telenor AS to receive equity funding. VimpelCom will receive as much as $337 million (393.3 million euros) in funding from the two companies.
