Alcatel will buy Assured Access for $350 million

Alcatel SA announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Assured Access Technology Inc. for $350 million. The deal is part of Alcatel's efforts to improve its data networking product offerings. Assured Access manufactures remote access technology. The company is based in Milpitas, California. The deal represents Alcatel's third major acquisition of a US data equipment firm since October 1998.

France Telecom says revenue rose 9.2% in half

Article Abstract:

France Telecom SA reported an improvement of 9.2% in revenues for the first-half period of 1999. However, the company's market share in the long-distance industry in France continued to fall in the half. France Telecom posted 12.98 billion euros in revenues during the period. During the same period in 1998, the company reported 11.88 billion euros.
