Article Abstract:

More than 100 Indian software companies have become involved with work related to the year 2000 computer date change problem. They have so far obtained contracts worth $1.4 billion, and hope that this work will allow them to gain access to overseas projects dealing with other large-scale software problems. The Indian software industry has been successful in gaining year 2000-related work partly because of the low volume of domestic work in this area.
