In 1996, the UK market for cooking appliances was valued at 533 million pounds sterling. Between 1991 and 1996, the market grew 19.4% in volume, but remained stable in value terms. Volume growth is attributed to increased sales of colured ovens and built-in cookers. Of the total market, microwaves account for 42.8%. An overview of key trends is included, together with market data, consumer profile, market sectors, manufacturer profiles, distribution, prices, and forecasts for the future.

Retail kitchen houseware sales are reviewed in terms of market and sector trends together with company profiles and their methods of distribution and advertising. Mixed retailers are expected to hold approximately 22% of the market share by 1999. Supermarkets had a share of 9.6% in 1994, and are expected to increase this to 11.6% by 1999. Pifco Holdings, which produces the Russell Hobbs Tower range of kitchenware, has a 2% share in the market.
