PIDILITE INDUSTRIES: A REVIEW

Article Abstract:

Pidilite Industries Ltd manufactures adhesives, sealants, polymer emulsions, surfactants, organic intermediates, art materials and auxiliary chemicals. It has 7 facilities in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Adhesives and sealants account for 56 percent, art materials 3 percent, construction/paint chemicals 10 percent, industrial and textile resins 13 percent and organic pigments and preparations 15 percent of its total turnover. Its branded consumer goods account for 60 percent of the sales, which is likely to increase to 70 percent in the next 3 years. It recorded a sales growth of 12 percent at Rs168.5 crore and a net profit growth of 35 percent at Rs19.7 crore in the first half of 1998- 99. Its operating profit margin increased to 21.9 percent from 20 percent. (rk/kvr)

KADAKIA GROUP: HEADING FOR A MERGER?

Article Abstract:

The Kadakia group of Mumbai is likely to hive off its inorganic division into a separate company as it is eating into the profits of its organic chemicals division. Ashok Alco-Chem (AAC) posted a net profit of Rs10.1 million on net sales of Rs173.6 million in 1997-98 against projections of a net profit of Rs26.2 million on net sales of Rs262.8 million. Ashok Organic Industries posted a net loss of Rs82.8 million on net sales of Rs893.7 million in 1997-98 against its projections of a net profit of Rs289 million on net sales of Rs1505.5 million.
