Washing machines, dryers and dishwashers in Italy

Article Abstract:

Washer-dryer and washing machine production grew to a record 8.1 million units in Italy in 1997, with dishwasher output also reaching a record level of nearly 2 million. Domestic appliance exports are high, with 1.56 million dishwashers and 6.65 million washing machines exported. Imports accounted for 27% of apparent dishwasher consumption and 14% of apparent washing machine consumption. Apparent consumption in Italy stood at 0.55 million dishwashers and 1.69 million washing machines. The market for dryers and dishwashers is expected to grow, but the washing machines market is believed to be saturated.

Knitted outerwear products make up the lion share of the market with a 55% stake. Imports continue to rise, accounting for around 17.7% of consumption in 1997.
