Brainstorming with Oracle

Article Abstract:

California-based Oracle Corp. will introduce a free global online service called VentureNetwork on February 6, a venture that will provide products and business consulting to entrepreneurs on how to establish an Internet start-up company. VentureNetwork was recently tested in Europe and signed up 70 firms to give consulting services and registered 2,800 entrepreneurs.

Vision fades for BizTone

Article Abstract:

BizTone.com, a site developed for renting software over the Internet, has failed to succeed as a venture. Shortly after the launch of BizTone, larger companies such as SAP AG and Oracle Corp. began leasing software, making it a large market with which BizTone could not compete. BizTone has begun to shut down offices in Singapore, Denver, and Melbourne, and currently is looking to sell its technology.

Waste not, want not: Raffles Hotel taps into an online exchange to trim the fat

Article Abstract:

Raffles Holdings Ltd.'s top executive, Richard Helfer, has set up an online exchange site from which their hotels purchase only specific products. Raffles invested $2.5 million in BeXcom Southeast Asia to set up the Internet site. Although the shift was a difficult adjustment for Raffles' purchasing agents, the company is saving around $1 million annually simply by requiring their hotels to buy certain items.
