Network computers, which cannot run software, are being promoted by makers such as IBM, Oracle and Sun Microsystems as a huge potential cost savings for business. However equipment and administration costs saved by installing simpler equipment will be taken up by more powerful networks and servers.

Dell Computer shares have risen over 250% in 1996, and profits for the quarter rose 60% over 1995. Low overhead and inventory turnover up to seven times faster than traditional marketers allow the direct-sell company to achieve high profits in a market where prices are dropping almost daily.
