Weight on the mind

Article Abstract:

The high risk of serious disease to people who are overweight highlights the importance of sticking to a low fat diet, exercising regularly and eating healthily. Up to 50% of the UK population are overweight in 2000, with almost 20% of those being classed as clinically obese. Low fat diets are an essential part of eating healthily, while taking regular exercise at least three times a week can drastically reduce the risk of heart disease. Genes have an important part to play in the health of a person but a lot can be done to improve quality of life.

Hitting below the belt

Article Abstract:

The most common prostate problem is benign prostatic hyperplasia, a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate which can cause the sufferer to have trouble passing urine and to need to pass urine frequently. Cancer of the prostate is much less common, but is still the second most common cancer in men, causing 10,000 deaths a year. There are mixed views about how cancer of the prostate should be treated and about whether screening for this condition would be effective.

Bad body language

Article Abstract:

The language used by medical professionals can often be very hard for people without a medical background to understand. In many cases, doctors and hospital consultants use technical terms that leave the patient with little idea about what is wrong with them. This is sometimes deliberate, especially if the doctor or consultant is not really sure what the problem is. However, patients often like to have a technical term for what is wrong with them.
