Swire steadfastly builds its base in China

Article Abstract:

Swire Pacific Ltd. has been able to penetrate several key industries in China and has helped some international firms to do the same. However, Swire has been cautious about entering into its core businesses, aviation and property, in the still-volatile Chinese market.

Analyst sees hope for Swire: strong income base helps long-term outlook

Article Abstract:

Analysts are optimistic Swire Pacific Ltd will survive the Asian financial crisis despite a profit decline of 39% which caused stock prices to fall almost 5%. Despite a slump on rents, the company has a strong base of recurrent property-rental income, low debt-to-equity ratio and healthy cash holdings which can possibly afford the company to acquire land cheaply as prices plummet.
