Article Abstract:

While Chinese women have gained more power under communist rule, they are still not treated equally with men. Women are the firrst to be laid off and often are forced to leave work to care for their children. They hold few political offices. Kidnapping and sexual abuse are common.

Article Abstract:

As China drifts away from communism parents are having to pay more to educate their children. Many poor families cannot afford to send their kids to school, as education is becoming just another growing business in China. Some schools have started their own businesses.

China's politics of crime

Article Abstract:

More than 162,000 people have been arrested and 1,000 executed as a result of China's latest campaign against crime known as Strike Hard. An anti-corruption campaign, also in progress, has landed many government officials in jail. Some have been executed.
