Where painting and architecture meet

Article Abstract:

Artist David Undery believes that works of art which use concrete as an artistic medium are well suited to the urban environment. He has worked with the medium for a number of years and is excited by the potential it offers to create durable works with a high tactile appeal. He applies a range of techniques, including chemical etching and grinding, to concrete panels. The results have an abstract spiritual quality, but Undery is keen to work alongside architects to produce works which are integral to their urban setting.

Air and grace for vintage American planes: the new American Air Musuem in Duxford will be big enough to house a B-52 bomber comfortably

Article Abstract:

The American Air Museum will be completed in Spring 1997 and will house the American combat-aircraft collection. Its design has been influenced by the proposed exhibits, particularly the B-52 bomber. The roof also had to be able to support a variety of suspended aircraft. The design is based on the geometry of a segment of 'doughnut' or torus and the concrete roof will be covered by a waterproof roofing membrane.
