Article Abstract:

Coir dust, a coconut by-product that used to accumulate as unwanted waste, has found a commercial use as a plant-growing medium because of its alkalinity and high water retention. Dutch Plantin exports processed Sri Lankan coir, and expects 1992 sales to reach $1.5 million.

Quintessence of dust: New Mexico

Article Abstract:

New Mexico hopes to expand its economy by enticing the two major defense plants located in the state to expand into civilian industries. The state also hopes the free trade agreement will expand its tourist trade, which is already its major industry.

An unknown pulmonary disease has killed 11 Navajos residing in their Arizona-New Mexico reservation. Federal officials are investigating a variety of explanations, including Hantaan virus, which is responsible for four of the fatalities.
