Which territorial cohesion policy for the new EU members?: The example of Slovakia

Article Abstract:

The central and eastern European countries (CEECs) had to go through an intensive 15-year transition process, to get ready for European Union enlargement. In the field of territorial cohesion, they had to cope with a specific post-communist environment due to which the programmes under the Structural Funds encountered difficulties of implementation.

Cohesion and subsidiary: Toward good territorial governance in Europe

Article Abstract:

An analysis on whether and how a community planning competence should interact with national planning systems is done. It is argued that the constitution should at least encourage planners to discuss principles of good EU territorial governance by addressing the performance of statutory planning systems in the common area of territorial cohesion.

Polycentric territorial cohesion policy

Article Abstract:

Polycentrism as envisaged in the European Spatial Development Perspective and its likelihood of becoming an issue in European Union territorial cohesion policy is discussed. It is further discussed that a polycentric Europe implies a polycentric process with initiatives suggesting the application of the 'Open Method of Coordination'.
