Zimbabwean Pres Robert Mugabe and his supporters look set to try any means to ensure re-election for Mugabe in the 2002 presidential elections. Mugabe has already gone back on agreements made to the Southern African Development Community and the Commonwealth to curb political violence.

Mugabe's pre-election arrangements

Article Abstract:

Zimbabwean Pres Robert Mugabe has issued a new decree allowing black settlers to take over hundreds of white-owned commercial farms. The move is to be completed well before the presidential election, due in Apr 2002, but the policy is having a devastating effect on the rural economy.
