Article Abstract:

British soccer authorities are negotiating with the BBC and British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) for a new television contract for the 1993 season. Under the proposed contract, BSkyB would acquire the rights to most of the nation's live soccer events, while the BBC would show highlights and cup matches.

The violent street protests by young Iranians as the Iranian football team struggles to qualify for the World Cup are thought to be a show of general discontent and nothing to do with football. The cause is thought to be poverty and unemployment, but politicians disagree over what to do.
