The effect of emission taxes and abatement subsidies on market structure: comment

Article Abstract:

A model is presented in which the scale of the polluting firm grows as the rate of returns to scale in abatement also intensifies. The model contrasts Conrad and Wang's (1993) model which studies the effects of tax on emissions of a polluting industry and shows reduction in the scale of the polluting firm as it is taxed. The present model furthers the Conrad and Wang's model which considered a monopolistic market situation, and instead is limited to perfect competition while focusing on pollution-damaged firms.
