Will law boost Hungary programme?

Article Abstract:

Some believe Hungary is only introducing the new privatization law for political purposes, with the law perceived as signifying the government's commitment to privatistion. The law is not vital for the privatization of many firms, but it could accelerate the sale of medium- and small-sized companies to employees and management if no other buyer comes forward. The government may also indicate the number of shares in utilities that it is willing to sell. Revenue of 150 billion Hungarian forint is anticipated by the government in 1995 from privatizations.

US firms await Thorn-EMI split

Article Abstract:

Thorn EMI is considering splitting off its rental business from its record label, which would make it more attractive to media companies, such as Walt Disney, Viacom International and News Corp, who have all expressed an interest in the adult record business. However Disney hopes to grow Hollywood Records and believes it can grow a second one. Viacom would also prefer to develop its own record label, rather than purchasing a large label.
