Several Internet sites provide data to fliers concerned with safety

Article Abstract:

Frequent fliers who want to do research on safety tips aboard airlines and the kinds of emergencies most often faced by air travellers could check out several Web sites in the Internet. Among the more useful Web sites are the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) www.faa.gov., www.airsafe.com, www.airclaims.co.uk, www.boeing.com and www.aviationweek.com/safety/index.htm. The FAA site is useful because it evaluates safety standards at international airports while airsafe.com lists down the safety records of every international airline

U.S.-Japan cargo accord gets lukewarm welcome

Article Abstract:

The US and Japan have been trying to come up with a definitive open-skies agreement for air cargo but their efforts have been marred by disputes. At any rate, an agreement has been reached which, although falling short of expectations, is a good starting point and an auspicious move in light of the May 1996 meeting between Pres. Clinton and Japanese Prime Min. Ryutaro Hashimoto in Tokyo. It also bodes well for the investment plans of such big US companies as Federal Express and United Parcel Service of America Inc.

Hong Kong keeps a lock on air cargo industry

Article Abstract:

The Hong Kong government continues to maintain strong controls over the local air cargo industry, despite the colony's booming international trade. The government persists on negotiating new air service agreements with other countries in behalf of domestic airlines. This policy has strained Hong Kong's relations with its major trading partners, particularly the US which has long demanded the opening of the colony's airline industry.
