Chemical reaction: ICI pretties up image

Article Abstract:

Imperial Chemical Industries PLC (ICI) has shifted its concentration from chemicals to paint and perfume. In 1999, The British company had a market cap a little less than its $7 billion of debt, but now ICI's luck may be changing. In April, the firm agreed to sell off some of its chemicals businesses, and in October, it sold its acrylics unit. Meanwhile, ICI's debt fell to roughly $3.5 billion, and ICI said it would cut home-office personnel from 900 down to 300. Finally, the company's shares are beginning to rise.

Viva to fund expansion plan with flotation

Article discussing the flotation plans of Viva, the German music channel, whose shareholders include music companies EMI Group PLC, Universal Music Group, and Time Warner Inc. Viva decided to float the channel in 2000 to obtain funding for expansion plans in Poland and other areas of Europe.
