Toy certifying misleads buyers: EU misses the mark with safety label

Article Abstract:

Most toy purchasers in EU countries believe that the European Conformity (CE) designation on a toy label means that the toy has been approved as safe by the European Union. Nothing could be further from the truth. All toys sold in the EU must bare this label but no testing for safety is done. The toy manufacturer simply says that the toy so labeled is safe. A close look at the CE label demonstrates how open to misinterpretation some EU regulatory symbols have become.

Coca-Cola will resume output in Dunkirk, France

Coca-Cola Co. has been allowed to restart soft drink production at its huge production facility in Dunkirk, France. The French government gave the company the permission. However, there is still no definitive answer as to why over 200 people became ill after drinking Coca-Cola. The illnesses cost the company a large amount of money and led to a few days of bad publicity.
