William Hague's identity crisis

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom Conservative party leader William Hague has taken a refreshingly new approach to talking about British identity. However, he has been mistaken in exaggerating how fragile British identity actually is. In this way, he has made it easier for people to overlook the fact that he has highlighted an important issue. Two of the dangers he identifies the Labour party as posing to British identity can be dismissed as irrelevant, and he has only really made a valid point in claiming that the Labour party's plans for constitutional change are misguided. British identity will remain strong for the foreseeable future, and Hague is in danger of spoiling a valid point through exaggeration.

Hague's history lesson

Article Abstract:

The leader of the United Kingdom Conservative party, William Hague, has sacked the leader of the party in the House of Lords, Lord Cranborne. Cranborne reached an agreement with the government on the future of hereditary peers in the House of Lords, allowing 91 of these peers to be retained of a total of 751. Hague denounced the agreement and had banned Cranborne from negotiating with the government. After having sacked Cranborne, Hague then supported the deal, though he does not accept an agreement on the future of the House of Lords in general.
