On the Retino-Cortical Mapping

Article Abstract:

Research on visual perception in Macaque monkeys has provided physiological data on the projection from retina to cortex. a schematic model is presented of that aspect of visual processing. An automatic 'normalization of description' appears to hold for an object regardless of its retinal image size. New concepts of contrast sensitivity, indirect vision, eye movements, pattern recognition and scene analysis are suggested. Similarity exists between human visual processing and monkey visual processing.
