William Tatton Brown, pioneer public architect

Article Abstract:

William Tatton Brown, an architect, was committed to idealism and challenge many bureaucratic structures within which he worked. He was the first qualified assistant of Berthold Lubetkin, involved in the Modern Movement. After the war he became a planner and by 1948 was deputy county architect of Hertfordshire. He became chief architect to the Ministry of Health in 1959 and was responsible for much input into the hospital building programmes during the 1960s.

Article Abstract:

'Robert Mallet-Stevens' will be held at the Center Pompidou, Paris until 29 August 2005 with an intention to put Mallet-Stevens in perspective and to restore him to the pantheon of French culture. Some of his works include his first major building of the Villa Nogales, his own five-story house and a studio built for the sculptor brothers Martel.

The Parliament's chamber is an impressive volume, but its roof seems to have been designed by Aalto after a heavy night out

Article Abstract:

An account of the architectural changes in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland as viewed by a visitor who came to the city after a gap of 40 years is presented. The change with the most special significance was the catastrophic design of the new Parliament building created by Miralles.
