Wolfgang Schussel, an Austrian abroad

Article Abstract:

Austrian foreign minister, Wolfgang Schussel, leads the People's Party, which is in government as part of a coalition. Schussel pressed for Austrian entry into the European Union (EU) as well as European monetary union, although many in Austria did not favor EU entry. He aims to become Austrian chancellor and for Austria to have a key role in Europe, which the country's strategic location fits it for. Schussel also wants Austria to be a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
