Woodside's future is unclear

Article Abstract:

The Australian government has blocked a $10 billion bid by Royal Dutch/Shell Group to take over Woodside Petroleum Ltd. citing national interest concerns. While some feel that the decision will harm Australia for future investment, Treasurer Peter Costello explained that Shell's oil and gas interstes in other parts of the world might have interfered with promoting exports from Woodside Petroleum's North West Shelf project.

Chinese oil companies have struck up foreign interest

Article Abstract:

Royal Dutch/Shell Group is to invest $300 million in the initial public offering of China National Offshore Oil Corp. The companies intend to cooperate on gas marketing as well as oil and gas production and exploration. The action by Shell comes after other investments by large foreign firms in the initial public offerings of Chinese oil companies.

Regulators block Shell deal

Article Abstract:

Royal Dutch/Shell Group planned purchase of Fletcher Challenge Ltd.'s energy unit is being blocked in New Zealand by that country's antitrust body. The body raised concerns that Shell would be acquiring or increasing its dominance in gas production, gas production after 2009, and liquefied petroleum gas production.
