The US and the European Community are sending members to a conference on the civil war in the former republics of Yugoslavia. A peace plan will be discussed. However, the US and EC often simplify the situation, to which there are no easy answers.

The EC is currently negotiating a treaty with Morocco that will open up free trade and better political relations. The EC has been encouraged by progress, such as King Hassan's drafting of a constitution with improved human rights conditions.
