Batley, a small town in northern England, is the best location for purchasing Japanese antique furniture. An old Victorian textile mill converted into a shop receives and restores various furniture items shipped from Japan. The shop advertises oriental antiquities on the Internet and ships them to various international destinations.

Yen's rise is no thanks to Japanese investors

Article Abstract:

The Japanese yen has risen because of foreign investor interest in Japan and the shifting of Japanese bank deposits. Japanese investors will be able to seek greater investment returns after Dec 1, 1998, when they have greater access to foreign markets. There is greater optimism in Japan with renewed equities interest.

Japanese banks strike loans off the business agenda

Article Abstract:

Japan is in the midst of credit rationing managed by its banking system. As a result, banks are less willing to initiate new loans. Bad loans in Japan are estimated to be between $600 billion and $1,000 billion. US banks are also showing signs of reining in bank loans.
