Spanish government returns to market

The Spanish government is planning to privatize several companies following the stabilization of bolsa, Spain's stock-exchange. First stock offering is the sale of its share in Retevision, a major Spanish telephone company. Other government privatization targets include Iberia airline, Indra and Red Electrica.

There is a great deal of real estate development taking place in Spain in 1998. UK, Canadian and Spanish developers have been acquiring sites since 1995 to develop sites for leisure activities, such as stores, restaurants and amusement parks. The Spanish economy is growing.

Funespana will list over 33% of its shares on the stock exchange so that it can expand throughout the world. The company provides services for 60,000 individuals annually. The company had an income of $75 million in 1997, an increase of 7% over 1996.
