Zero tolerance of bullies

Article Abstract:

Bullying can have a very negative impact on a company's working environment. It can reduce the victim's self-confidence and productivity, and can even create an inability to undertake the work required, thus prompting the victim to resign. The Institute of Personnel and Development believes that it is very important for a company's top managers to be strongly opposed to bullying. If they behave in an aggressive, bullying way, then employees further down the company hierarchy will emulate them.

How do you relate?

Article Abstract:

It is important for directors to assess their own behaviour and how they relate to others. They must ensure that they have personal, technical and business skills, and must consider how they may need to change in order to improve their performance. They must realize that behaviour that was effective at managerial level may no longer be appropriate, and must be willing to abandon certain activities in order to focus on new approaches.
