Barnes gallery could be duplicated, witness says

Article Abstract:

The testimony in Montgomery County Orphans' Court revealed that the Barnes Foundation's revered art gallery in Lower Merion could be duplicated precisely inside a larger Center City facility costing $100 million. The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Lenfest and Annenberg Foundations have promised to help raise $150 million for the Barnes to build a new facility downtown and establish a $50 million endowment.

Expert: Barnes' funding plan doable

The annual fund-raising goal in the Barnes Foundation's plan to move its art gallery from Lower Merion to Center City is found to be a workable option. John Callahan, a New Hampshire-based consultant to nonprofit groups, has assured Montgomery Country Orphans' Court that the piece of the Barnes' plan to raise $4.25 million a year can be accomplished.

1.8% cut planned in Peco' 01 bills

Peco Energy Co., which is planning to issue $1 billion in bonds, has announced it will reduce customer charges by $60 million in 2001. The cost cutting measures, which will average 1.8% for business and residential customers, received approval for the bond issuance from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
