Article Abstract:

Cable companies, Comcast Corp.(Philadelphia, PA) and MediaOne Group merged, making Comcast the No. 3 cable company in the nation. Cable consumers will not see lower rates though claims that the $50 billion merger potentially saves the companies $500 million to $600 million. Prices will continue to increase as there is little competition in the cable industry and very little regulation. Analysts and company executives see the potential benefits in increased and improved services, such as high speed Internet access and telephone services.
